The United States Naval Academy
The Naval Academy was founded in 1845 by the Secretary of the Navy, George Bancroft, in what is now historic Annapolis, MD. The history of the Academy has often reflected the history of the United States itself. As the U.S. Navy has moved from a fleet of sail and steam-powered ships to a high tech fleet of nuclear-powered submarines and surface ships as well as supersonic aircraft, the Academy has changed also. The Naval Academy gives young men and women the up-to-date academic and professional training needed to be effective naval and marine officers in their assignments after graduation.

Sacramento Division,

So, we just finished our 6-week examination period for my second semester of my sophomore year and things are going really well. I am still studying Arabic and now trying to double-major in both International Relation and Arabic which is probably going to include some summer school and a lot of overloading my course schedule during the semester.

I am taking some really interesting classes like Middle Eastern Civilization and a Language Contact and Conflict course which deals with sociolinguistics of languages in various countries. I am more excited for next semester when I get to take Arabic Culture, Middle Eastern Politics, M.E. International Politics and my 5th semester of Arabic language.

As for YPs, things are going good so far I am not the Commanding Officer of my boat anymore but I am the Training Officer for the entire squadron ... so I am essentially just keeping track of everybody's progression and making sure they get qualified on time and help them with their Craftmaster Qualification.

I did POLA this past winter and will be doing it again this summer down in San Diego so come on down, especially since you need it for PO2 now!

Fair winds and following seas!

Respectfully,

MIDN Brook Stevens, USN
YP Squadron Training Officer

Every day, as the undergraduate college of the naval service, the United States Naval Academy strives to accomplish its mission to develop midshipmen “morally, mentally, and physically.”

The United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar is a fast-paced, six-day experience for high achievers who have completed their junior year in high school. The Summer Seminar teaches you about life at the Naval Academy, where academics, athletics, and professional training play equally important roles in developing our nation's leaders.
APPLICATIONS open February 1st of your Junior Year.

Read Former Cadet Self's account of Summer Seminar under the Advanced Training page above
The US Naval Academy

"To develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty in order to provide graduates who are dedicated to a career of naval service and have potential for future development in mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship and government."

The Naval Academy offers a first class education in developing midshipman to be efficient officers when they reach the fleet. With majors from Aerospace Education to Arabic you are sure to find an academic nitch that will fit your desires. Also, from the humid summers to the snowy winters this would be a welcome culture shock from sunny Sacramento.

Admission Guidelines ... LPO Brook Stevens - USNA Class of 2012

First of all, during your Junior Year in high school you need to get ready for the application process. At 2100 on the 31st of January (which is 0000 on the 1st of February on the east coast at the Naval Academy) you need to get on http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/nass.htm and apply for Summer Seminar which is a 6 day course in June for all prospective candidates that just finished their Junior Year.

You NEED to hit this date as they come on a first come first serve basis. Also, be ready with SAT, ACT or PSAT scores along with your transcript for grades, all volunteer work, and extracirrcular activities to include Sea Cadets as Sea Cadets was the biggest HELP for me.

Second ... if you are not accepted to Summer Seminar ... as soon as applications open on April 1st get back on www.usna.edu/admissions and fill out the Preliminary Application (however if you get accepted to Summer Seminar they keep that application as your preliminary application) ... sometime late April or early May (this is only if you got accepted to Summer Seminar or applied with the preliminary application early April) you will get a letter from the Naval Academy with a
• USNA Log in Username and Password
• Candidate Identification #
From this point on you can log in at the bottom of the www.usna.edu/admissions page in the candidates only section ... As soon as you get this letter log in and start filling out some forms ... You can always send them more stuff later as you will see with mine ...I had a big resume that had all my information from the past 3 years and then every few months from then I sent another update.

However, when you send in an update you must write on the top ATTEN: LTJG BOB JONES or whoever your Regional Director is. Your Regional Director is listed on your personal page when you log in with your Username, Password, and Candidate ID Number. For example, mine was LTJG Danielle Curtis and I would write that at the top of all notifications I sent to USNA so that I could later call her and she would personally know if that piece of mail was recieved.

You can send these udates by snail mail, fax, or email. Remember they must be smart in appearance so review everything before you send it. I personally got my Regional Director’s email address and asked for the fax number and send all updates that way from then on out.
